However the Dolphins drafted a TE instead of a WR in the 3rd round and the two already have a connection. “Before I even (arrived in South Florida), he was texting me picturesof the playbook,” Egnew said. “He was just trying to get me acclimated to their offense, which was quite a different offense than what we had in Missouri.” Egnew was a WR turned TE and is a vertical threat and a defensive mismatch. In rookie minicamp Tannehill looked like he was in control of the offense and looked comfortable and threw a TD pass to Egnew during drills. Both Tannehill and Egnew will probably not take many 1st team reps in the beginning of camp, however they can both build a relationship with each other on the 2nd string squad. I believe this relationship will be important because I see Tannehill starting fairly early in the season and I also see Egnew as an impact player who can play significant time at around mid-season. The Dolphins need a safety blanket for Tannehill and if Egnew can turn out to be it that would be great for both their young careers and hopefully in the future.

Ireland helps himself with a solid draft

Ryan Tannehill and his family > Ted Ginn and his family

Jeff Ireland has taken a lot of heat this season. Some of it he deserved and some he didn't because it was out of his control, like when he pursued Manning. However I now think we can now stop the fire Ireland chants and protests outside the stadium. I know that you can't necessarily draw conclusions after a draft because you never know, but I think Ireland really did have a good draft and showed he could take some risks.

The safe pick at number 8 could have been a defensive/offensive lineman who could come in and contribute right off the bat because Ireland was on the hot seat. It would have been a safe pick and there would not be any real risk. However in the future that pick might not have been the best option when we look back at it. It was about time that the Dolphins took a QB and a risk in the draft and if Tannehill turns out to be a good player we are in the playoffs. The same can't be said about a lineman.

We were able to sure up the right side of the line with the addition of Jonathan Martin who was projected to go in the 1st round before the draft. In the 3rd we selected Olivier Vernon and Michael Egnew. Vernon has 2nd round talent but character issues made him slide a little bit, but when he is on the field he could flat out dominate. We needed a pass rusher opposite of Wake in the new 4-3 base defense we will be running and we got it. Next we got Egnew who was a WR but converted to TE. He is the insurance policy Tannehill needs and we needed a pass catching TE. Yes we do have Clay and Fasano but at times Clay could always slide to FB and Fasano is more of a blocking TE and anyways at times in the Texas A&M offense they utilized 3 TEs.

Lamar Miller who we selected in the 4th, in my opinion, was the steal of the draft. Miller could have gone as high as the late 1st or 2nd round but he slid all the way to the 4th because he had shoulder surgery and health is a concern. However Miller has home run speed and it was a luxury that we got him even with Thomas and Bush. Bush will be used more as a WR in this offense and Thomas could serve as that goal line back. Imagine the speed we will have with both Bush and Miller on the field at the same time.

Kaddu in the 5th is a good coverage LB and don't mind the pick. Cunningham, our 6th round pick, is a good west coast WR. He is one of the better slant runners and although he does not possess elite speed he is more than willing to make the tough catches in the middle of the field. The DT Randell and the WR Mathews are also good prospects who could make and impact in a few years.

The more I look back at the draft the more I like it. WR could still be considered a need, but like Philbin said in his offense their is no #1 receiver. This could be a good sign because that might mean someone like Roberto Wallace has made enough of an improvement to become a #1 receiver or maybe they like Legedu Naanee.

Also on another note Tannehill said yesterday when interviewed at the press conference that he already knew 75% of the playbook and another report stated that Philbin said that Tannehill had the playbook down within 3 hours. Tannehill is a smart guy and I recently watched a video of Gruden's QB camp and was impressed on how much Tannehill knew and you can tell Gruden was impressed as well. He also said that he has never seen a QB teach a WR first hand how to run a route and was impressed. I strongly recommend that you watch the video to not only see Tannehill but get a sneak peak at the offense we will run. I now wouldn't be surprised if Tannehill beats out Moore and Garrard for the starting job in week 1. He knows the offense and even though he lacks experience Flacco and Sanchez both started right off the bat with even less games started.

A commercial message: register to vote

The next election is about 6 months away. Voting is a privilege we have in this country, so don't waste this opportunity. Take a few moments to verify that you are registered to vote, and if you aren't, go out and register!

Its your right as a citizen to help shape our government.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming,

A ray of hope?

Finally. After more than 12 years and 5 head coaches, the dolphins finally got some sense knocked into them and drafted a QB in the first round. None of us know if Tannennhill is any good or if he will work out. But at least the team finally made an effort. Now whether Stephen Ross forced Irelands hand is anyones guess, but you have to believe there was some influence there in spite of both of them saying otherwise. And so it goes. Ireland's future will be linked to the young QBs success. Now the question is whether Ireland drafted the "immediate impact" player or if Tannennhill will sit on the bench the whole year. I hope he gets a chance to compete and grows with the new head coach.

Ryan Tannehill is the right choice

Picture taken from NFL.com

There it was, the moment we had been waiting for since free agency ended. With the 8th overall pick the Miami Dolphins selected the QB out of Texas A&M, Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill wasn't a big surprise to many but I think if another team not named the Dolphins had the #8 pick and they chose him it would have been a surprise. The reason for this is because I think Tannehill is perfect for the Dolphins. His head coach is our offensive coordinator, we have Philbin who developed Rodgers, Tannehill knows the offense because he ran it in college, and we also have the luxury to not be forced to start him day 1. Nobody else knows as much as Sherman does about Tannehill's potential and he was convinced he would be great and if Sherman thinks so, so will I. Get excited Dolphin fans, this should be a fun journey.

The season of false information and deception

Don't you just love this part of the offseason? Everyone has a mock draft out and speculation is running wild. Along with all this comes false information and a lot of smoke screens, causing teams to release any false information just to get a leg up in the game. Take for example what just happened with the whole thing about Ross wanting the Dolphins to draft Tannehill from PFT. It was originally reported on PFT but was then later denied by Armando, but then confirmed by Peter King and then denied by the owner himself Stephen Ross. No one knows for sure which is true besides the Dolphins themselves.

Now the Jaguar's director of player personnel Terry McDonough said that “people know Miami’s going to take [Tannehill], if a team wants a quarterback they're going to have to come in front of Miami."

If you are a Tannehill, as strange as this is going to sound, this is actually a good thing for the Dolphins. The reason being that this shows that the Jaguars have not received any legitimate calls about trading up to the #7 spot because if they would have they wouldn't have said anything. They are trying to sell the 7th spot and so far there are no buyers.

It's the draft season and usually most the information out there is not reliable and are mainly smoke screens for teams to gain the mental advantage. Just make sure to take everything as a grain of salt and not look too much into it.

Draft Meet Up

Fyi

From: He didn't sound like he was saying anything more than "I *AM* the Dolphins - trust me!" It was kind of ridiculous. He was cagey and dodged everything because he didn't want to tip his hand.

But I am firmly in the camp that he will be drafting a lineman (probably offensive, but could be defensive) at #8.

So one thing that struck me as odd was his answer to the question "Do you talk to Bill Parcells often?" He said he didn't, because they were both busy, but they talk now and then.

Why is that odd? Because Parcells hand-picked Ireland. Because Parcells always has time to chat. He talks to Peyton Manning almost every day. He talks to Rex Ryan regularly. He talks to Sean Payton regularly. He was doing that while he was here - but he doesn't have time to talk to the guy *he* picked to run this organization.

What does that say about Ireland? Parcells is not a fan? Ireland is lying?

Its a simple comment, but so vexing and confusing. Its not that hard to imagine that they talk sometimes.

Draft chat

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); We have a tough season opener but for the most part the beginning looks pretty manageable. playing the Jets at 1 o'clock in September when the sun is hot is definitely a plus and we also play them after a bye week, which also should give the Dolphins the advantage. Looking at the first 12 weeks we should be in just about every game. Then we play two hard teams the Pats and 9ers weeks 13 and 14, but we get a little break with the Jags and Bills and then end the season at New England. Also whats pretty nice is it looks like besides the New England game it doesn't look like we will be playing any other cold games (maybe the Bills on Nov. 15 might be a cold game). We play a lot of games at home at the end of the season which is nice. However my one complain is that we only have 1 prime time game. No Monday or Sunday night games just a Thursday night game on NFL network, however that could change because of the flex schedule.

Matt Moore likely to be the Dolphins starter week 1

The Dolphins are more than likely going to draft a QB in this year's draft. However whether that be Tannehill or any other QB not named Luck or RG3 they probably will not start week 1 of the season. Moore did have a 87.1 QB rating and did finish the season last nine games with a 6-3 record. He proved that he could wins games last year when given the opportunity and has deserved the chance to at least start this season. Moore might not be the long term solution but for at least the first half of the season or the first year he could serve as the starter while the rookie QB sits and learns the game. I believe that Moore will beat out Garrard and will start day 1 and it may not be a bad thing when you think about it.

Brock Osweiler in Miami Right Now

Brock Osweiler tweeted roughly 2 hours ago that he "Just landed in Miami...excited about my visit with the Dolphins!". Osweiler is projected by many as a top 5 QB in this years class and is probably going to go anywhere in the 2nd or 3rd round. The one thing that stands out when you watch Osweiler play is his size, the guy is 6'7 which allows him to easily see over the line both defensive and offensive and find receivers easier over the middle on short crossing routes. However where he releases the ball is pretty low compared to how high it should be thrown but that shouldn't be that much of a concern because his height makes up for it. Osweiler will more than likely have to sit out a year as he is still pretty raw. The same could be said for Tannehill and if the Dolphins draft either of these two guys look for Matt Moore to be the starter day one. The only QB outside of the top two who can start day one in my opinion would be Brandon Weeden who will probably go in the 2nd round. Some say that if his age where lower he has the talent to be a top 15 pick.

I believe the Dolphins will ultimately end of getting on of the three in the draft. I think if they draft Tannehill they would then pick a DE in the 2nd round and then a Wr with one of not both of their 3rd round picks. If they choose either Weeden or Osweiler I think they will get either Melvin Ingram or Quinton Couples in the first, draft the QB in the 2nd and go after WR in the 3rd. The WR class is deep and they should be able to find quality players who could have instant impact in the 3rd round.

Nike uniforms looks the same as last years

Nike unveiled their uniforms for the NFL today. It's time to give Sam Bradford some weapons, especially now that Lloyd left to New England

Jaguars- Melvin Ingram DE

The Jaguars need to get a pass rusher. Tannehill knows the offense because Sherman was his head coach and now is the offensive coordinator. Makes too much sense, however so did Flynn.

Panthers- Quinton Couples DE

I believe the Panthers go defense here and put thee pressure on Brees, Ryan and Freeman. A solid offense and a defense that can get after the passer could really improve this team.

Bills- Riley Reiff OT

The Bills want to run the ball and protect Fitzpatrick, and they do so on this pick. The offense was successful for the first part of the year but then died down through out, they need to improve the offensive line to give their QB more time to throw the ball and open up some running lanes.

Thanks for reading and please leave a comment as to how you think the top 10 picks of the draft will play out.

Also these pictures where taken from NFL.com on their mock draft central page.

Ryan Tannehill

Ryan Tannehill is regarded by many as the 3rd best QB in this years upcoming draft. That may not always be a bad thing when you have a once in a decade sure fire QB in Luck and the track star QB who throws a very accurate ball and won the heisman in RG3.

The Dolphins make the most sense for Tannehill as their offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was Tannehill's head coach. Tannehill was previously a WR and Sherman thought so highly of him that he moved him to QB where he succeeded and beat out all the other QBs. Tannehill possesses great mobility and pocket presence and is considered an accurate QB. He fits perfectly into the new Sherman/Philbin west coast offense and could be the future of the Dolphins. It will also give Tannehill the perfect opportunity to become a leader as he will be familiar with the offense and could teach other players it as well as gives Philbin a chance to draft his own players and use the mindset that the Packers have in which you build through the draft (notice how small of a splash the Packers have made this season). This pick makes too much sense and could be the reason why the Dolphins passed on Flynn and where not serious players in the RG3 sweepstakes.

Greg Cosell, who spent numerous hours studying film, thinks so highly of Tannehill that he believes the QB is a superior prospect when compared to Christian Ponder who was drafted last year and #12. Now the one problem would be if he can get past the Browns to number 8.

Jeff Irleand

I've got a question for everyone: how many GMs in the NFL can you name? 3? 4? Have you ever heard the national media or other players talk about them? So the fact that Ireland's name is national, and players are talking about him is not a good thing. Rather, its a bad thing. We had the same problem when Rick Spielman was here more or less, didn't we?

But that's not all. In an article today, Armando talks about Jeff and tells us that he wants to "build this offseason through the draft" and that he was handcuffed by the salary cap.

First things first: you are down about 4 starters (two on each side), and some key reserves and you intended to put rookies in there? Or maybe some guys who couldn't crack the lineup last year? Yikes.

And then the salary cap. Clearly, YOU are the problem with the cap. You've been here for going on 5 years. Only a few (what is it, 3?) players are left from a previous coach or GM. So that means that all current contracts have your signature on them. If the Dolphins don't have money to spend, that is your fault, and you can't simply explain it away as "oh its the salary cap"....you know what the cap is. You have a cap-ologist. You knew last offseason there would be a smaller cap when the CBA was signed.

No, this mess the team has is all on you. As I said before: 7-9, 7-9, 6-10. The players account for most of those records.

And from what I read: Peyton really had no interest. Alex Smith took this as a free paid vacation to Miami, but had no interest. And Matt Flynn saw the Fins weren't serious about signing him. So, while Jeff "tried" - he really didn't.

I am not joining the media in calling for his ouster, because they focus on the wrong things. I am calling for his ouster because he can't manage the cap, and can't find good enough players.

Oops

The nfl handed down fines and punishment to the saints organization yesterday and you could argue that in the big picture it means little and the game remains the same. Like spygate, it's a blip to the sport. Except for one little detail. Mike Ornstein, who did not work for the saints, was contributing money to the bounty program. You can read all about it here http://deadspin.com/5890499/meet-the-convicted-felon-who-defrauded-the-nfl-made-reggie-bush-ineligible-and-funded-the-saints-bounty-program The oops is that there is a paper trail linking an outsider (and convicted felon) to the program. No doubt the justice department will want to look into it. Plus it could expose the nfl to more lawsuits related to paying players outside of the CBA. The nfl is extremely scared of him and what might happen.

Championship here we come!

The NFL is a tough business. If you're a GM you get it from all sides - the media, your owner, the fans - and there is no pleasing everyone.

Just ask the much maligned Jeff Ireland. Guy can't catch a break. Nevermind what the the media says about him - its clear they don't like him - think about what he has done for this franchise. He's assembled personnel that went 7-9, 7-9, and 6-10.

And the secrecy is probably the most annoying part of it all. I know they want to maintain a competitive advantage (so no one knows if someone's mom is a prostitute). If he would just appear to be telling us something, rather than letting the media speculate, we'd be better off.

And on that note, what he does say relative to what he actually does is troubling.

He stated that we would have an upgrade at QB. Oh and he tried, by all accounts. But in the end, he gets David Garrard, who is above average, but not a world beater. Consider this: he was let go by the Jags on the eve of the season and no one even called him throughout the season - not even the Dolphins who needed a capable backup. And now he's here as the upgrade. Rejoice dolphins fans.

The trade of Marshall felt "weird" - although the Dolphins got something in return And the re-signing of Paul Soliai could be good - if the Dolphins use a 3-4 because he is truly a nose tackle. The other signings? Who the heck knows? Releasing Yeremiah Bell, who led the team in tackles and won the man of the year? That too was odd.

The Dolphins sure felt awfully close last year - well at least at the end of the season, going 6-3. It almost felt like maybe they were only a few parts away. from being good. But with all of the changes, I'm not so sure.

But at least we can still do some celebrity sightings at the stadium! Maybe with only a handful of fans, we can even get autographs!

NFL Network should just cover 31 teams

Again NFL Network did a segment in which it had another state of the Dolphins in which Joey Porter and Warren Sapp again talked about how bad the Dolphins front office was. This is really getting excessive. I know this is the off season and NFL network has nothing else to report on but really again with piling on how bad our team is? I really hope that they just cover every other 31 teams besides us at this point. I want them to stop talking about us, they should just pretend we moved out to Canada. I don't about you guys but turning on the TV or going to NFL.com to see if any new news developed and then there is those "analysts" bashing our team is depressing. Its getting old and excessive NFL network go report on other teams. I know its part my fault for turning on the TV and going to NFL.com but I'm just trying to see if anything else has developed.

The Media

I turned on NFL network today and obviously I heard the Manning news and all that good stuff and then something catches my attention. They begin to talk about the "state of the Dolphins", apparently no one wants to come here and this topic came up because Ryan Clark tweeted something out the other day that no one wants to play here after Flynn went to Seattle. First of all if the Dolphins truly wanted Flynn they would have got him. They were offering him back up money, not franchise QB money. Anyways they are laughing it up, Jamie Dukes, Rich Eisen and the saints former full back there thinking they know everything about the Dolphins which ticked me off a little.

Next I went to Pro Football talk and Florio is there writing about how bad the owner is, saying he "swung for the fences and hit himself in the face with the bat."

I have become really tired of this. Everything Ross does is seen as desperate and he looks dumb to the media. Ireland is getting laughed at for still not finding a QB even though the draft still hasn't even started yet. Fans are setting up billboards telling Manning to come here, and then there was the sign during the Jets V Dolphins game wanting them to fire Ireland and neither of those happened. It's come to the point where it's just embarrassing. I wanted the Dolphins to get more in the news which they have this year, but almost all of it is bad. It's just so embarrassing, and I know that I will probably forget all of this if the Dolphins win next season but I just hate being the future Lions when they were bad.

Anyways here is the tweet from the safety:

No one! To believe I almost went there but it was easy decision not to. GM RT @captmrose: No kidding! NOONE wants to go to the Dolphins!

It basically reads like this: some guy tweets the safety that " No kidding, no one want to go to the Dolphins. Then the safety says no one does, glad I didn't go there because of the GM.

Also on another note Clark's tweets afterwards are him responding to fin fans who get upset and he responds to things like have a good day or some other short message that he doesn't really mean because if he did he would have deleted the tweet and apologized. Don't let the fame get to your ego Clark making other seem small because your in the big leagues, just my opinion.

A bumper sticker I'd like to see

Honk if you turned down the Dolphins offer to play QB - or were rejected by them!

Yeah, there would be a lot of honking, based on just how many QBs have slipped through Miami's fingers over the last two decades.

Sean Smith Gives a Sneak Peek into the New Nike Uniforms

Nike is taking over the NFL jerseys this year and as I had posted before, Nike has tweaked some things to the uniform. One of them was the NFL gloves, which were worn during the Pro Bowl. The same concept as the college football gloves when both hand are put together and the logo was seen was incorporated. I also noted that the logo color seemed to be a new color, a lighter aqua, which as seen in the logo from the picture that Sean Smith posted on his twitter account seems to be lighter than the original. An excellent point was made by a follower of this blog Vic107m, a graphic designer, who stated in a comment on the previous post that "Nike did in fact slightly change the design. The same aqua is present, but they have incorporated a gradient from the aqua we know and love to a lighter more vibrant version of the color. This helps create more depth in the figure." I thought personally this was a pretty cool change.

Also as seen in the photo, the Nike logo is also present on the sleeve, which is a minor change to the jersey. It is rumored that the jerseys will be revealed during the draft in April but they could always be leaked before that, in a manner similar to what Sean Smith did.

Below is also a photo of the gloves revealed during the pro bowl.

Dolphins Agree to Trade Brandon Marshall to the Bears

The Dolphins have traded Brandon Marshall to the Bears for 2 3rd round picks, one this year and another next year. This, in my opinion, probably means that they are really close to signing Manning and need to clear up cap space. Brandon Marshall was one of the highest paid WRs so it does make sense in that aspect. Also there was a report that Manning did not want to play with Marshall because of his attitude on the field and he will demand the ball, something that Manning did not want to put up with. In those two aspects it makes perfect sense, we clear up a lot of cap space (we only had 9 million) so we can sign Manning and his former teammates Reggie Wayne, Saturday and/or Clark. This is just my educated guess, so I could be wrong and maybe the Dolphins may not end up getting Manning, but from my point of view it certainly looks like they will now.
