Dave’s take: on jonathan Martin, and parkland ...

Jonathan Martin showed up in the news again, and it’s for the wrong reasons.  After what took place in parkland, this is just plain dumb. In short, he made an Instagram threat using a gun, and it prompted a school closure, and he was taken into custody.

One thing I would say is that mental health issues are real, and that is something we should certainly focus on.

And while we’re on the topic...parkland is not too far away from the dolphins facility.  My heart breaks for those kids, and those families.  They are a part of my community.

If you would like to help in some way, here are a couple of ideas...

The dolphins made a donation of $100,000 to the Stoneman Douglas victim fund. And you can too.

You can donate and/or take part in a March... #NeverAgain

You can donate blood in your local community (and while that may not help here, it will surely help somewhere)

You can engage your state and federal representatives in a discussion about guns and gun control.

The thing I have come to realize is that the high schoolers of today will be the leaders of tomorrow, and we need to listen to their voices.  This is not about politics or party, or anything of the sort.  This is about a better tomorrow for themselves.

Very well said sir.

Good post Dave

How about some discussion about getting some real security in our schools? It's the only place in our country where large groups of people (our children at that) gather without sufficient armed security.

In case people haven't figured it out. Criminals don't obey gun laws.

David Keller is right. You can't enter a football game without a pat-down. You can't go to the Department of Revenue without metal detectors and armed security. Our schools are protected with "Gun Free Zone" signs. Engage your politicians and tell them to protect our schools!

Homeland Security... make them earn their keep.

If you asked every American tax payer to add $100 to his tax bill for the specific purpose of 'School Security', the govt could add 5B or more and commence to build a plan. Do it for 5-7 years and the entire US school base would be covered. Plan would include bullet proof windows, police in the AM and at dismissal, metal detectors and cameras where there are none, a new dept in each school for troubled mental health individuals. Not complicated. If the tax idea is too much to execute and monitor, then how about a few less F-16 Fighter Jets, Aircraft Carriers, nukes, etc. Same Homeland Security Budget, just a few less War Machines to fight the war against our schools.
US already has enough of those (war machines and nukes) to blow up the world 100x over, time to use those funds to save our schools and our kids !!! Plan would never work, sadly. It is too simple.
