2016 Miami Dolphins 7 Round Mock Draft (3rd Edition: Elliot vs CB in Round 1)

There are obviously lots of mocks out there for the first round. Most have us taking a corner, Vernon Hargreaves III or Eli Apple and then some have us taking Ezekiel Elliot to play running back.

Given Mike Tannenbaum's history, I wouldn't be surprised to see us trade back and pick up a second round pick or even more.  Did anyone expect the price that the Rams or the Eagles paid to move up to the 1st and 2nd picks?  I thought they paid a ransom.

What most mocks out there are not showing is the full value of our entire draft in relation to filling most of our needs.  We need a starting CB and could use a RB. If we draft Elliot in round 1, about time we get to our next pick, all the corners who are projected to be able to step in and start from Day 1 could be gone.

If we take the CB in the first round, we can still get a good RB later.  I think that will be the game plan for our draft this year.

Look at the following two drafts I just filled by utilizing a computer app to pick for the other 31 teams.  The value of any player should match the value of the pick used or at least be in the general neighborhood. You can look up the skinny on these draft prospects on either cbssports.com or nfl.com or any other number of other sites offering their opinions.

Elliot Draft:

Round 1: Ezekiel Elliot, RB, The Ohio State University
Round 2: Cody Whitehair, OG, Kansas State (the value for available corners was not worth it to draft one here, the top 8 were gone with a major run starting near the end of the first round and into the second round)
Round 3: T.J. Green, FS, Clemson (same issue for a corner)
Round 4: Jonathan Jones, CB, Auburn
Round 5: Sean Davis, FS/CB, Maryland
Round 6 Charone Peake, WR, Clemson
Round 7: Caleb Benenoch, OT, UCLA
Round 7: Lawrence Thomas, DE, Michigan State

CB Draft:

Round 1: Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Florida (first CB off the board)
Round 2: Cody Whitehair, OG, Kansas State (top OG in draft)
Round 3: Derrick Henry, RB, Arkansas (surprised he fell, probably due to over 400 carries last year)
Round 4 Darian Thompson, FS, Boise State
Round 5: Scooby Wright III, ILB, Arizona
Round 6 Charone Peake, WR, Clemson
Round 7: Branden Allen, QB, Arkansas
Round 7: Caleb Benenoch, OT, UCLA

If we go Elliot and we don't get lucky with either CBs Kendall Fuller, Sean Davis or Artie Burns still available in Round 2, we may have to double down at CB later in hopes of getting one guy to be able to step up and start.

However, if we go CB in first round, we can still get a good RB later and utilize a Running Back by Committee approach.

What do you think??? Please keep in mind that all drafts are a crap shoot when factoring in the player's ability to stay healthy and if they meet or exceed their projected talent. No one knows for sure.

BTW...sorry for the delay in posting another draft.  Two weeks ago, I was at the Masters for the first time and this past week I had cataract surgery (so much for missing holding calls while reffing high school football)

Phins Up!!!
