One Less Win Brings Two Vets

If reports are true, that the Dolphins would be getting LB Kiko Alonso and CB Byron Maxwell from the Eagles for simply swapping first round pics, I am ecstatic.

We would be moving down 5 pics from 8 to 13 and that is where we could have picked anyway had we won only 1 more game to finish 7-9.

Granted we are losing some value and maybe the ability to draft Florida CB Vernon Hargreaves or UCLA LB Myles Jack but they could fall.

There are plenty of surprises come draft day.

Phins Up!!!

Taking on the two new Eagles is not all that bad. Heck, 2 starters o this team, anyway. Phins stinked up the joint with their current group at 6-10 anyway, so why not change it up ? YOU HAVE TO, or sit and suck again. However, the drop to # 13 from pick # 8 makes no sense, none. Phins will lose shot a Hargreaves the CB from FLorida, and likely Alexander from Clemson as well. They'd better hope that at least LB Ragland is still there OR maybe with Miller leaving, RB Henry from Alabama ? Myles Jack will be gone as well, dropping 5 spots is big. This organization is terrible at drafting and that is why each year they have to shop FA's to plug holes. This MO has brought nothing but more chaos down the road. More holes come because of salary cap strife, injuries, etc. 2-3 GOOD DRAFTS in a row would help stop the nonsense, but Phins can't get 1 draft right! Ugggghhh.

I beg to differ. We are not all that bad at drafting. Look at the free agents leaving us now.

Picks 9-12 need defense too. But there are still talented kids available. And there still is no guarantee any draft pick will be a starter day 1.

This is actually a really good deal for Miami as long as these two guys can stay healthy. Two immediate starters and no draft picks lost. We just pick 5 picks later in the first? I can live with that. I don't like Maxwell's contract, but it can be restructured and as long as we run a zone defense and get another quality CB, he should do fine. If Kiko stays healthy, he will be a beast. He has a lot to prove too. This is the last year of his rookie contract.

Oh...but I can't help but notice that our issue and the guard position is not even being talked about, and the better FA guards are dropping off the board like flies. None of this will matter if Tannehill spends half the season on his ass for the fifth straight year.

I agree with both your posts Jeremy. There are 4 first round CBs available and hopefully we could get either of the top two or perhaps Clemson's Mackensie Alexander or Ohio State's Eli Apple.

However, could you see us drafting Ohio State's RB Ezekiel Elliott to replace Lamar Miller?

Would rather have Derrick Henry. Say what you will about Saban, he turns out NFL-ready players.

Carl,

Apparently CJ Anderson visited Miami. So to be honest, I'd rather use that 1st rounder on a defensive player. Either CB, LB, or S. I think CJ Anderson is a decent RB that would make for a good RB committee along with Ajayi. We don't need vintage Chris Johnson out there or anything. We need a top defense, a bruising running game that can consistently get 4-5 yards per carry, and an offensive line that can get Tannehill enough time to find one of his many great WRs. If we get all of that and Tannehill still can't win, it's time to move on.

I like CJ Anderson. I agree on backfield by committee.

So Jeremy wants defense.

How about an OT like ND Ron Stanley or Michigan St Jack Conklin and move RT James to guard.

Or could trade down again a few picks and still get good value and another pick?

Derrick Henry is a great pick too. Faster than Elliot and less wear and tear.

I think Elliot goes first round and Henry goes to Dallas in round 2, so I don't see us getting either of them. And I know we need to address the guard position, but right now I hate when we draft them, because we have sucked at it for so long. Every time we draft a guard, I automatically assume he will be a bust. However, now that the FA is winding down and we still have barely addressed the position at all, I suppose we better draft at least one guard or draft a tackle and move James to guard like you said, Carl. In fact, your idea might be better than drafting a guard, since we seem to be able to evaluate rookie tackles with some level of competence.

We do get good tackles out of the draft.

Now that CJ Anderson is staying put in Denver, we may have to draft an RB in the first three rounds.
