Competition needs to be brought at the QB position

This season has obviously not been what we all expected, and in a season with a weak AFC, it looks like the Dolphins will be on the outside looking in again. Now I don't believe Tannehill is the biggest problem and believe we should invest picks on the offensive line again to hopefully sure it up. I do however believe that we should use either a mid round pick on a QB, or pick up one up during free agency to at the very least bring in some other competition to push Tannehill.  I like Moore but it is apparent that he is a career back up quarterback and I don't think he poses a legitimate threat to overtake Tannehill as the starter.

I like the idea of a mid round pick on a QB because at that position you never know what you could get. Russell Wilson was a 3rd round pick and I know they are hard to find but why not take a chance in like the 4th round or so. Obviously there are other positions of need and using a pick on a quarterback might not be in the best interest to win immediately but I would like to see them take a gamble especially if we have to rebuild next season depending on what happens with the coaching staff (Possibly getting a Shula back to south Florida?). I still believe however Tannehill will be the starter come next season because in this league quarterbacks are hard to come by and we have committed the money.

So what do you guys think? Is it foolish to invest a pick on a quarterback? If not who do you want in either the draft or free agency (Manziel or RG3?). Look what happened to Rishard Matthews, the threat of Parker pushed him to his best season of his career.

Agree completely. Competition is good at every position. Moore isn't getting any younger and we need to draft someone to groom or take over in case TH17 doesn't take the next step and doesn't warrant keeping due to his inflated salary. TH17 needs to step up on third downs, fourth quarters, and when the chips are down. And get rid of the stupid "fins up" slogan too.

And I believe Moore is a free agent too after this year so we may have to part ways

I've given you a lot of heat for ur criticism of tannehill tho some is warranted, but this time you hit the nail on the head. A good lineman and would love our first pick to be the best linebacker available or jalen Ramsey but a mid round pick on a qb makes lots of sense. I always thought the better thill got the more of a leader he'd become and maybe the next coach will fix the issues he has and I think he can grow but if not let's be prepared

Depending on where our draft pick ends up being and what we acquire in free agency, I think we could address the o line, cb, and linebacker position and then maybe draft a QB. The draft is still a long ways away though.

It is, I do agree guards are cheap and easy to get in free agency and can land a starting CB as well, I think Ramsey will be a pro bowler early and want a mlb who captains and commands the defense. I tapped out on hope this season so the draft is on my mind

Also I'm not giving up on tannehill yet, tho I've never seen a qb so athletic refuse to scramble and grab command, I know he can but getting tired of waiting

I have kicked this idea around a lot and I love the idea. I think a true competition brings out the best in everyone, but it needs to be a true comp, not a veteran journeyman like Moore who is clearly not the future. It would cost a draft pick because there will not be a FA who would really warrant the battle. So the next question is where to draft the guy? That's where opinions split harshly. I personally think it all depends on value. I'm honestly not opposed to Miami spending a 1 or 2 on a QB who can push Tannehill.

I would love Staley, Myles Jack, Bosa or Robert N out of Ole Miss be available when we pick but if they aren't there and Goff, Wentz, or Lynch or there when we pick I think we should seriously consider it. (Whichever they prefer although I like Goff) I know it sounds insane but the best way to get the best team is best players available and stick to the board. Otherwise the future and talent level of a team gradually drops when you use the draft to only address needs instead of getting the best players. The team has so many needs it's hard to ignore them, especially early on. So I understand that. But if I have a chance to draft a pontential franchise qb or just a average quality starting tackle, or linebacker, I'm willing to put off needs for overall talent. FA is when you sign needs and fill gaps, the Draft is the way to find franchise players.
