Losing Out

Will the Dolphins win out to save their coach? It's a foregone conclusion that this team won't be able to. It's too bad, he's gaining valuable experience as an interim head coach.

The silver lining in being a loser is the 2016 draft. There are seven teams with worse records than Miami:
3-7 Ravens remaining opponents record   30-30
2-8 Browns         "                 "                "       30-30
2-8 Titans           "                 "                "       43-27
2-8 Chargers      "                 "                "       33-27
3-7 Cowboys       "                 "                "       35-25
3-7 Lions             "                 "                "       26-32
3-7 49ers              "                 "                "      29-31

4-6 Dolphins         "                "                "       30-30

Miami is in a tough spot. They're out of the playoffs and have a slim chance of losing enough to get into the top ten. Not a lot of options outside of the top ten and Miami needs options to try to fill its many holes.

Ideally, Miami has to lose its remaining six games to have a chance to move up, but they'll have competition from other teams doing the same thing. There are also seven teams with the same record as Miami:
Jaguars              "                "               "   24-36
Raiders              "                "               "   29-31
Redskins            "                "               "   24-36
Eagles                "                "               "   35-25
Bears                  "                "               "   20-31
Saints                 "                "               "   33-27
Rams                  "                "               "   32-28

If you're counting, that's six teams that have a tougher remaining schedule than Miami. Losing out to get into the top ten draft picks will be as tough as winning out. Not a very good scenario, huh?

Forget wanting to lose out. No one wants to do that. Lets win out instead and sneak in.

The draft picks will take care of themselves. Not everyone ahead of us will have the same needs. Plus we need LB, OL, DB help someone good should be available.

Right now, we wasted 2 first round picks with Dion Jordan and last year with DeVonte Parker. Both aren't contributing when we could have had a couple decent linemen or LB or DB. It's the wasted picks not the later picks that kill you.

Jordan may not pan out at all and the jury is still looking out on Parker.

I hope that next year we pick guys who can start whether we over value or not, I don't care. Just fill needs instead of highest rated guy on the board.

Agreed I say try to win, you can get a high quality mlb, corner, or safety in the first 2 then I highly suggest a guard in round 3.

If we were drafting an edge rusher or tackle or the top rated qb would be different

Granted. It's just that you can get a pretty good package of later round picks for a top ten. Miami has many needs to build a contender. Anyhow, I'll be hoping they beat the Jets!

Maybe if we win we can get two extra picks in the draft like the Cheatriots did this year. This still rubs me raw that the Super Bowl winners got 2 extra picks.

I've come to realize that this year the NFL is cheating for the Patriots. The refs keep making magically bad calls during their games and somehow they play all their primetime games at home. Meanwhile it was demanded that the Dolphins play in England as a home division game.

mattbatt, good things happened out of the London trip. Philbin got fired to head off a player mutiny. Interim Head Coach Campbell then finished the job by firing Coyle.
