Say what?

Stephen Ross told us it was playoffs or nothing this season. He expected the team to make it.

They didn't and could still wind up 8-8.

And yet today he put to rest speculation and said Philbin will return next season.

Give it up for settling for mediocrity dolphins fans!

This is an uninspiring owner. And a coach who looked lost most of the day today.

Philbin should be gone. End of story.

Unbelievable. Sickening. Just goes to show that it all starts with a competent owner. Ross is a bum with absolutely no clue. This means, I think we all know, 18 months before we even have hope again. Bills, Patriot and Jets fans must be laughing.
Such a shame.

"I'm expecting big things next year, I'll tell you that"-This was a quote from Stephen Ross today about his decision to keep Philbin. Does that sound familiar? Oh yeah! That's right! He said the same thing before this season! LOL.

WORST OWNER EVER. So glad we cancelled our WAY OVER PRICED season tickets. Phins will never win with this owner

avatar

I m predicting 9-7 next year. Possibly 8-8 depending on schedule. Little to no cap. Odrick clearly walks. Wake declines and coaches in 'win now' mode so no trade to get value. Five years before this team returns to prominence.
Feel sick. Ross is poor. Need demonstrations to get him out. But then we d probably end up in LA

avatar

Ray couldn't we be 9-7. Tanny had nearly 400 yds today . We won and Landry is a gem. You trolls don't remember Cam Cameron 1-15 ?

First off we have improved from last year. I think we have our QB in place, we have a solid GM as he has proved his value from his first draft with the Fins, given the short notice and stress, he didn't go sexy and Fin fans were probably bitching about his picks but their lips are puckering up to his ass now. Our Oline has injuries but next year we will have 3 pro bowl linemen, a good draft with possible selection of Melvin Gordon. Every fan wants the flashy coach and cry for that dick head Harbough how is a cancer to began with. So lets just fire everyone, hire Harbough and in 2 years start crying again. Dolphin fans are a bunch of pussies.

Look at that shit defense that gave up a ton of yards to a rookie; and that run defense that has given up a ton of yards the last 5 games! Look at the defensive scheme! If Coyle stays, we don't go to the playoffs ever!!! We will just be mediocre again! After they fire Rex, we need him for defense! We need to get rid of a few guys on defense. Burnett definitely has to go! Ellerbe!! We've had a sack drought...well, were is our first round draft pick to rush the passer?? Wake isn't getting it done anymore and neither is Vernon

@ Farley:

1-15-no playoffs
9-7-no playoffs.

What's the difference exactly?

avatar

@ hector:

Who is Burnett?

avatar

@ Lawrene Cam Cameron 1-15 Nick Saban < Philbin whose your available choice
Mr. know it all ! Build dont destroy

@ Benz Guy You nailed it .

avatar

@ Benz Guy:

Every team has injuries. That's not an excuse.

What makes you so sure J. James will make the pro bowl along like Albert and Pouncey?

We are at 8-7, if the Jets beat us next week then we are 8-8, so how is having the same exact record as last year an improvement if they lose? Just curious how you know the outcome of next weeks game...

@ Farley:

Todd Bowles. My choice.

avatar

Not exactly a proven commodity as a head coach.I was at all of his games in Miami.. good guy with great talent . Bring him in a D - Coordinator in waiting maybe. Lets see his performance tomorrow so we micromanage his performance in the clutch. I saw the Falcon dominate his " D" a few weeks back.

Todd Bowles an American football Defensive Coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He played eight seasons in the NFL as a safety, mainly for the Washington Redskins, and started in Super Bowl XXII. He was the defensive backs coach for the New York Jets in 2000, Cleveland Browns from 2001 to 2004, Dallas Cowboys from 2005 to 2007, Miami Dolphins from 2008 to 2011, and, most recently, the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was the interim head coach for the Dolphins for the final three games of the 2011 season with a 2-1 record after the firing of Tony Sparano.

Worst. Blog. Ever.

@ Jay Hinton:

Thanks. For. Reading.

avatar

Lawrence, I can't believe I have. The whole season. Nothing positive. I thought Armando had that covered.

avatar

@ Jay Hinton:

What exactly is there to be positive about?

Not sarcasm, serious question.

I'm sure the Packers, Patriots, Broncos, Steelers, Bengals, etc etc all have a ton of positive things to say about their teams bRachael their teams aren't irrevelant!

avatar

I'm positive because we were really close to beating teams that nobody gave us a chance to beat. I have seen a to of improvement on the field the last three years. We are getting over past draft mistakes and the future

avatar

looks brighter. All this despite counterfeit line (OL and DL) line play. I just don't think the Dolphins have as much to fix as they have in the past.

avatar

@ Jay Hinton:

We controlled our own fate the last 2 years for a playoff berth and failed. Started 4-0 and squandered it. I have to disagree with u

avatar

Disagree all you want. I still think we are 3 O linemen away from being a good team, and a linebacker corps away from being great.

avatar

normally I agree with you on most posts but this time I 100% disagree with you philbin is horrible and will never lead this team to a championship.anyone who doesn't see that is blind to the game of football.football is an emotional game at the heart and Philbin has no emotion heart or guts..now i agree with you on hickey but philbin is by far one of the worst head coaches in the league & were going no where with him..healthy squad or not..bruce arians in arizona plays in toughest conference in football 3rd string qb & more injuries than the fins & still has 10 11 win team for example..i have seen plenty over last 3seasons to know philbin has gotta go.i cant take his stupid decisions time outs & playing guys who shouldn't be out there..phillip wheeler vs. green bay anyone??

avatar

I think it's a good decision and Ross is obviously talking to many people, including Marino before he would make this announcement. Several players were interviewed by the broadcasters before the game and when asked about the dump Philbin talk they ALL said they liked playing for him and that the coaches don't drop passes, fumble, miss tackles, don't convert in the red zone, etc. I think Coyle has got to go and we need to beef up our D a little and we need a BIG strong and tall target for RT. Wallace did pretty well but not $60M worth. Not sure about him as I think he's lazy out there or a bit of a prima donna. Knowshon back and a couple moves and we should be in the post season. I'd rather go this route than trashing the whole organization

avatar

@ Jay Hinton:

The whole league is a few players away from being good or great. That's why you have coaches to compensate for that! If everyone had good o lineman, good LBers with the talent we have to go with it then of course we would be great. Our team will change this offseason due to the cap. So what's ut gonna be the year after? "We need a run stuffing nose tackle and a few corners and we will be great!"? LOL. That's hilarious

@FinFanNJ:

You are right. Philbin don't drop passes, miss tackles, or stall in the red zone.

But he does misuse time outs. Pass 3 times from the 1 yard line. Constantly expect his players to do things that he should know they can't, such as put wheeler in coverage 1 on 1.

And of course the players are gonna say they like to play for him! What do you expect? Did you not see odrick and Philbin on the sidelines a few weeks ago? that should tell you what they think of their coach...
