I know there are a lot of people pointing fingers as you
commonly see after a hard loss. Sure you can rip on Coyle for having Wheeler in
coverage; sure you can rip on the last offensive series play calling and clock management. Of course you can call for Tannehill to be
pulled and replaced after playing another lackluster first half. These are all
valid things to be upset about and hindsight is always 20/20.
With that being said there is something which I have been
commenting on since the loss to Buffalo.
At that point I was just ripping the coaching staff for being foolish. I was upset because if they had not used such
a dumb short yardage set, I thought we had a real chance to beat Buffalo. Then
I saw it again in the Kansas City game. At that point I was very upset because it
had become ridiculous. Now here we are
again with a loss to Green Bay. This game was so close it was a one play game.
Sure if we make one less mistake we sneak by the Packers with a win. Or… We
could have went to halftime 10-10 with them and had a two score lead if the
game played out the same. Fans, we had a
3RD and GOAL FROM THE ONE
YARD LINE. Miami ( after failing in Buffalo and failing against KC using a
formation that place the Quarterback and Running back in the shotgun with no
lead blocking help), we comically lined up in it again at the one yard line. I
don’t know what other word to use than comical a this point. It was STUPID to use it against Buffalo. It
was INCOMPENTENT to continue to do it against Kansas City. Now it is just a
joke to continue to do it. Let me share a famous quote by one of the most
intelligent humans to ever exist on the planet. “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and
expecting different results.” – Albert Einstein. Yes we had the ball on the one yard line with
two downs. The 3rd down call – Pass.
Shakes my head in disbelief. Wait what? We have a team that struggles to
stop the run all bunched in tight in the endzone and you are passing on the 1
with two downs? Yep we sure did. Result Tannehill should have had it picked off
and got lucky. I am thinking ok ok you
tried to be cute now line up with extra
lineman and either have Tannehill sneak it in or just slam Moreno in behind a
load of a lead blocker and push forward. The 4th down call? Moreno in the shotgun hand off no lead blocker
and run right into the overloaded D-Tackle part of their defense. Wait what? Of course he had no chance and
gets dropped for loss. Packers take over.
I am trying to understand why they expect fans to support
the coaching or the team for that matter when they are doing this over and
over. It makes no sense from a strategic standpoint to begin with. And it has failed repeated at critical moments
in the game from an outcome standpoint. Philbin is “Mr Statastic” how does he
not see that it has cost him big? I have
tried an open letter to Steve Ross to demand the coaches stop doing it.
Obviously that does not help. At this
point I want to know who is accountable for it. Philbin is the head coach so he
has to at the very least allow it. Lazor is making the play calls as far as I
know so he is either being forced to do it by Philbin or he in some crazy alt
world has Philbin thinking this is a good short yardage play design. Does
anyone have any ideas on how to at least get them to explain why they refuse to
stop trying it? Almost like a large scale organized boycott of the team until
this is explained or stopped? It is not just for us the fans but the players as
well. They don’t deserve to put their heart and soul into the game to lose
because of something so foolish. I am at a loss and don’t know what else can be
done other than wait for the coaches to be fired. Anyone with any ideas on how
to get their attention on the matter please let me know. Not to sound to awful but I am starting to
wonder if there was a reason Philbin did not call the plays in Green Bay. Wait maybe I should sound awful on Philbin. Lets vote for the biggest Philbin Fail.
1.) Philbin Unaware of Bully Gate
2.) Philbin Allowing his rookie QB to be scouted on HBO to give the Texans and open season advantage
3.) Philbin allowing Sherman to use a snap count so basic the Dline knew it was run if the QB said Go and it was pass if he said GO GO
4.) Philbin going to a shotgun formation on 1 yard to go play failing to covert them over and over.

"I am trying to understand why they expect fans to support the coaching, or the team for that matter, when they are doing this over and over. It makes no sense from a strategic standpoint." I've been saying this since 2004.
fire joe philbin and kevin coyle. promote kacy rodgers to dc and put ken okefe interim coach see how the rest of the year plays out
Philbin should have been fired last year for allowing Bullygate and blowing out completely against the Bills and the Jets. We got nailed in those final two games with the playoffs on the line.... nailed outscored 42-10 against losing weaker teams. This guy is awful, no debate left, no defence available.
Coaching is terrible.. They still do not know how to use Tannyhill and it's clear as daylight. Him rolling out of pocket creates havoc for defenses and he is a much better passer rolling out not a pocket passer or long ball passer.
Wheeler.. Coaching... Wheeler shouldn't even be on the fiels much less on man to man coverage. So this is totally in my opinion a coaching problem. We do not have the best coaches on the field.
I agree with everything you have written gofins4sb.
Philbin is in over his head right now. There is a learning curve with any new task but I have lost patience waiting for the light to come on.
I don't need Philbin to call the plays. I don't need him to handle the draft. But he Should have a say in his final roster and he needs to be involved in making sure the coordinators are utilizing schemes that give us the best chance for success. He needs to manage the game.
As you have already stated, he is failing in this regard. We have no fullback on the roster and his ex team has Kuhn, who contributes mightily to their success. Why he doesn't have a pound out a yard formation with 7 O Lineman suited up for each game is beyond me.
Maybe Einstein is available to sit down and explain his quote to Philbin or maybe Philbin played too many quarters without a helmut.
What new learning curve, Philbin has 37 games under his belt and 30 years in the game, if he doesn't know now he would never know.
Dude I don't know you but Philbin is not going to learn how not to suck anytime soon he should have been whacked last season, Ross is too weak to go for the kill.
Knowshon done for the year....ouch
Mac Morrison I think what Carl was saying is that there is a new learning curve now with Lazor's new offensive scheme. It's totally different compared to what they ran in Philbins first two seasons.
Oh and Philbin tells Lazor what plays to run. Check out this article and you'll see just how incompetent Philbin and Coyle are:
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nfl/miami-dolphins/article2705845.html
Coyle literally said that the defense didn't practice a scenario where the opposing TE runs an inside route in the red zone. They only practiced what the Packers had run so far this season. Seriously? They have Aaron Rodgers and you only account for Nelson and Cobb based on a 5-game sample? You're fired. Someone call Ross and tell him I just fired Kevin Coyle for him. Someone needs to.
I have been saying that Kevin Coyle sucks for 2 years! Now everyone finally agrees with me???! LOL SMH
Well I'm kind of new on this site, but I was saying last year that Coyle needed to be leaving with Sherman. I wanted them both to be fired after the Tampa Bay game last season.
As for Philbin, this was a quote from his presser after the GB game, "We have to play better in all phases of the game", how many times have you heard that one??? anour 15 so far? LOL this guys is clueless, he even admitted that he was the one who instructed Lazor to call a pass on the last Miami possesion. Here is whart I dont understand:
Tannehill said Philbin wanted to be agresssive to get the first down and end the game. OK great, I get it. So you pass on 2nd down and its incomplete so then you run on 3rd? GREAT WAY TO BE AGRESSIVE COACH!!!! Philbin sucks, time to move on. Nothing to see or hope for from this guy. If one man says you're a moron then thats their opinion, but if 10 guys say you're a moron, then guess what you are???????
@ jeremy: Coyle is horrible, plain and simple. If it werent for the abundant amount of talent on the Miami defense, it would be more apparent that he sucks. He constantly puts out defense in a position to lose the game. Imagine what a good d-coordinator could do with the Phins personnel? Imagine if rex ryan had them? Top 5 defense in all categories in my opinion.
I hate Rex Ryan as a head coach, but yes, as a DC he would be amazing in Miami. The only coach on this team that I like is Lazor. Picture this dream staff.
HC - Jim Harbaugh
OC - Bill Lazor (AND giving Lazor most of the play-calling power)
DC - Rex Ryan
I can dream, right?
Boy gofins4sb, Moreno going down is not good news.
But, as you wrote yesterday, we are still only a game behind the Pats and despite all our frustration we are still in the hunt with a very talented team that if they can somehow stay healthy we may still succeed regardless of the coaches short comings.
