What to do about Matt Moore? Let him walk!

The Dolphins don't need Matt Moore. Nope. They need a true upgrade at the QB position. Think I'm talking about a backup? Nope.

The Dolphins need an upgrade over Tannehill, and thankfully there are some viable options to get one in this years draft. And I am saying they would be FOOLISH not to draft a QB. Heck, trade up to get one! Don't tell me its not possible, you did it last year to pick a guy who barely saw the playing field!

And please, for the love of all that's good, don't WASTE another pick on an offensive lineman in the first round. Clearly, that is NOT how successful teams construct their rosters. Just look at the final 4 for proof. I still say that #1 overall pick Jake Long was another in a long line of wasted picks. He was here for all of 5 years, and spent nearly half his time on the bench, injured, and had nothing to protect anyway. They could have done so much better...

My top two QBs are these guys…Bridgewater, who I've raved about before:

And Blake Bortles, who I predict will have much more success (and more quickly, too!) than Tannehill in the NFL… (who? lookee here):

And so I say bring in one of these guys, and let him compete with Tannehill, then trade Tannehill when someone "needs" a QB, and bring in some vet to back up the new guy.

If Tannehill does stay around, well, I'm sure we'll see him during the playoffs next season.…that is, if has a webcam in his house and we can see him on the couch watching other teams play.

Not gonna happen Dave.

I agree, in hind sight, of skipping over Matt Ryan and drafting Jake Long. Long had 3 very productive years and got banged up the last 2 years here. I thought he was HOF material after his first 3 years but injuries have gotten the best of him.

Can't tell if sarcastic or stupid....

I agree that not drafting Matt Ryan was a mistake. Hello Goodbye Parcells!!

avatar

Yep not gonna happen, Long over Ryan was stupid but no way we're drafting a QB in first 3 rounds. OL, DT, RB bigger needs.

QB is the only way to go! Forget needs! And I am not being sarcastic here. Through free agency and the rest if the draft you can churn the roster considerably.

A guy can dream that maybe the QB position will finally be addressed. Maybe #18 after Marino will finally be a long term answer

avatar

Stupid because...?? QB is the single most important position on the field. And the fins seem incapable of filling that need. And it's been that way since 1999.

He's just being stupid. I used to respect Dave until he started ranting on Tannehill. Now he just sounds stupid. PFF has Tannehill at #7 above Brady. RT has tons of upside and is easily the best QB we've had since Marino. Most NFL professionals believe RT is our answer at QB and think he will keep improving. Coaching is our number 1 problem. Belichick would have had this team deep into the Playoffs. Many of the playoff teams had Oline injuries and did well thru coaching. Our Oline needs to improve but could've been a lot better if coached properly. Fix coaching and Oline and we gave a different end to the season.

Tannehill will be a great QB! Look at the strides he made with mostly backup playmakers this year. Not to mention under Sherman's horrific schemes! When we were balanced on offense, Tannehill had a great QBR! Think about this, if you switched Russell Wilson and Tannehill, would Russell still be in the SB? And how far would Tannehill made it in the playoffs? Those are up for speculation but all I know is that in the final 3 games Russell Wilson didn't reach the 200 yard mark in passing....something to think about....

BTW, we were only a few yards from having 2 1000 yard receivers! That hasn't happened since Marino nor has it been this close. That alone speaks volumes about RT. You should spend your time barking up another tree.

After the amount of money Ross spent in FA last yr, I just have a hard time believing will be major players in fa. We have the cap space and only 40 some odd players under contract so I see some trades, cut our losses with others and through the draft.

Maybe David Kennedy should ease up on the beer.

This entire "article" is absurd!

Like a previous poster noted, Pro Football Focus ranked Tannehill as the #7 QB. Go back and take a look at the game winning drives in the San Diego, Pittsburgh or the second New England game and tell me that Tannehill hasn't grown by leaps and bounds. Go back and look at the Saints, Ravens, and both of the Bills losses and tell me that an offensive line that allowed a franchise sack record isn't the problem.

Fix the O-line, resign Brent Grimes, get a second legit TE and we have a team that can beat the Patriots.

Also, I have absolutely no problems with keeping Matt Moore as a $4mil a year insurance policy.

They have filled the need, Tannehill has played very well despite dealing with major issues (incompetence at OC, drafting, FA, OL, playmakers in general on offense). He's still young and "raw" and actually played better then Luck or Keapernick.

Assuming Devlin is not a capable back up I like the idea of getting a QB. I would not say let Matt Moore walk? Why would you not try to trade him? Moore is pretty high quality for a backup to just release. However we have to address the line. Free agency last year brought us clabo and Lewis . We need Two starting tackles and two starting guards. Until that is done no QB is going to do well

Yes, because a QB is the whole team, just ask Dan Marino, who, by the way, has never won a Super Bowl. I guess they will let anyone blog about stuff they have no idea what they are even talking about.

The point of this article has been weighing on my mind for about a month...maybe time for a new QB. I might not let Moore walk, however. I'm not sure I've ever seen Tannehill play any better than how I would have expected Matt to play. In fact, Matt would have been a better down-field passer. I think I'd make them fight it out to see who stays in aqua and orange and trains the new guy.

The one problem Matt Moore has is he doesn't practice well. Surprisingly, he does play well. But this staff decided the starting QB by what was shown on both the practice field and preseason games.
Tannehill earned the job. Moore had every opportunity to be the starting QB. Once, Tannehill got the job, its his to lose and he has been doing enough to keep it while he has some upside as well.
I would keep Moore unless Devlin proves to be a good #2. Then and only then would I trade Moore for a proven starter at a position of need.
