What Is NFL VP of Officiating Dean Blandino Smoking?

Last night on NFL Network, VP of NFL Officials Dean Blandino stated he didn't believe that Ben Roethlisberger's lateral during the last play of the game would have been ruled a forward lateral because there wouldn't have been enough indisputable visual evidence to support that ruling.

Is he kidding me? I saw it as a forward lateral the first time I saw it on replay.

Now he cannot argue that there were not enough visual yardlines in the area to support "indisputable" as the hash marks were clearly visible and can be used as a guide.

Common sense and trust in your own eyesight should prevail here.

I am sure, if it came down to it, Referee John Parry would have utilized his common sense and trusted his eyesight.

As for Mr. Blandino, he has got to be dropping some Visine or Clear Eyes, because there is no way to tell that he is stoned.

Watch the replay again, and focus on the WR at the top of the screen, he lined up offsides and was moving forward at the snap. The play should have been blown dead right there.

Phins up!

I will say that whole play would be a nightmare for refs because so much was going on. I can handle them not getting that perfect and I am fine with player safety calls like the hit on Daniel Thomas was poor as was the late hit on Cam Newton a few weeks ago. The Ref is trying to protect the player which I understand. I DONT agree with pass interference calls we had early especially against the Patriots and the one called on the Browns last weekend. Refs have no buisness calling holding or PI unless it is completely obvious. Tick Tack PI calls on 3rd and long or on crucial plays mean the Refs are deciding games not players. That is not what people are paying to see.

First as Kevin Coyle pointed out here the players weren't set when the ball was hiked so the play should never have happened. http://www.miamidolphins.com/multimedia/videos/Coyle_Looks_Back_On_Close_Call/afc1c4aa-2771-451c-b246-158fc2a0b240

I pulled the video from my DVR and did screen captures and these are the pics I was able to make. It is pretty obvious https://www.dropbox.com/lightbox/home/Public?select=Foward%20pass.gif

Yes I saw that too Chris. Thank God he stepped out of bounds. Could you imagine if the ref missed that too.

Couldn't have said it better gofins4sb! You are my favorite!

So that was you?? I heard you Steve, loud and clear. My first reaction was complete disbelieve that we lost. Then ofcourse, I see the ref standing by what looked like a flag. Then they start running towards where he stepped out. Then they announce game over. But they stole my happiness!!! It was during the first replay is when I saw forward lateral. But again, THEY STOLE MY INNOCENCE!!!
