Off field news

Here are a couple of nuggets that have next-to-nothing to do with the team's play:

  • If you didn't hear, Stephen Ross quietly extended the contract of Jeff Ireland this offseason.  I guess that means Ross thinks he's doing a good job?
  • The team and Superbowl host committee submitted a bid to get SB 52 in Miami.  You can rest assured that there will be new talk about renovating the 'clunker of a stadium' any day now.
  • To the end, the team reportedly hired former Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas to consult with the team.  The assumption is that he will work on 'community relations' to help broker a deal in the local community.  The story goes that Penelas (who was often referred to by one-time talk-show host Neil Rogers as "Mayor Pinga Pequeña") is better qualified to handle local issues than Mike Dee ever was. After all, Penelas is a local, Dee was an outsider.
