2014 Pro Bowl could become a lot more interesting

New changes are being made to the pro bowl and it all starts 2014. No longer will we have an AFC vs NFC game, no now it will the top two vote getters will choose their teams with the help of Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders, as well as two NFL.com fantasy football champions. For safety reasons there will no longer be a kickoff, instead the ball will be placed at the 25 yards line. An additional defensive back will replace the kick returner. Defenses can now play cover 2 and press coverage except of just man to man like it was in years past.

There will now be a 2 minute warning each quarter and after the quarter ends, possession will change. If the offense does not gain at least a yard during the final two minute, the clock will stop. This forces the offense to not simply kneel the ball. The game clock will start after an incomplete pass on the referee's signal except during the final two minutes of the first half and the last five minutes of the second half. The play clock is now shortened to 35 and 25 seconds from the current 40 and 25 seconds. The game clock will not stop on sacks except in the final two minutes of the game.

I like these changes, it should make for an interesting and better game than years past. One thing that will be fun to watch is how players of the same team react if they are on opposite teams. Especially if one plays offense and the other plays defense. We will see in 2 years.

  1. Even more interesting will be captains picking their current team mates over more deserving opponents or dissing some of their rivals.
