Why do you even cover the Dolphins?

Greg Cote is a horrible columnist.     All he does is propagate that stupid South Florida dread that has been around ever since Marino failed to win a Super Bowl.   Please stop covering the Dolphins…  or, only write articles when the Dolphins lose games!   The Miami Dolphins have made incredible strides over the last year and a half.   I salute Ireland and the entire Coaching staff.  Well done.

Phins Fans ignore writers like Ben Volin and Greg Cote.    Those guys are only interesting when the sky is falling and the Dolphins are losing.

  1. Can you say Daniel Thomas or Michael Egnew? Maybe that's why we're nervous.

  2. Matt, no offense man - But when Thomas was in the game our Rushing totals were higher [on average] and in total (per game) and per carry than when he was sidelined. Go check the game stats...

Egnew, no comment! He could be a late bloomer - I really don't know. It is way too early to tell.

AND, I respond with Pouncey and Tannehill - I'm not nervous. I am beyond stoked!

  3. Egnew just lacks strength and corage going over the middle. Thomas is good but cant stay healthy.

  6. There's something to keep in mind here: newspapers are in the business of making money by selling subscriptions and advertising. The reporters are paid based on their ability to capture readers and bring in those eyes. So you may not like Cote, but the fact is, you read his stuff and made you think about it(even if you don't agree with it). Sometimes controversy is the right angle - but in this case "Greg Cote: Onus is on Dion Jordan, and also on GM Jeff Ireland" was pretty fair, IMHO (that's from me, as someone who is watching the game, but doesn't have a passion for this team anymore). Yeah, he didn't stand up and beat his chest about the move - but that's kind of the point.

As for Volin, reporters are paid professionals kind of like the athletes they cover - sometimes they move around, and cover other teams...and sometimes its their choice, and sometimes not. Him leaving the Dolphins is like Jake Long going to the Rams...

    1. No David, you miss the point... First, this is PRE preseason. This is the time of year we all want to read the positive and the most hopeful of possibilities (articles)...

The professional columnists almost always start with the 'GM Ireland is an idiot' or 'every thing they (MD coaching) do fails' mentality. It is the root assumption by which they write their articles. Armando has gotten so much better over the last 6 to 8 years. He used to do the same thing. Writing from a negative root assumption is not "Fair" reporting. It is slanted reporting.

2 more things that are connected: 1. How many 1st thru 4th round failures have the NE Patriots had over the last 12 years. You would be surprised to see that it is as many - if not more than the Dolphins - and 2. There is no ONUS on anyone here. Leave that nonsense at the door or at least until after the second season. At this point, there is no Onus on anyone... This was a brilliant move that by draft standards was economical. Miami just landed a highly regarded player (On EVERYONE's Draft board). I am sick of the naysayers in the Miami Press (and on radio). It is disheartening and needless.

  7. ...and that's why I don't blog about "the team" anymore. :) I get what you're saying, but still have a sense of agreement with Cote, and really, really, really don't like certain other reporters who are always positive.

Just the way it goes with me these days.

    But its all good.
