The Packers do not plan on Franchise tagging Matt Flynn

One of the biggest questions coming from the signing of Finely was if the Packers were going to use the franchise tag on Flynn now that Finely was signed. However according to a source on ESPN Wisconsin they will not franchise him for fear of either not having a trade partner or going into trade talks for a long time and losing out on signing free agents because Flynn would take up 14 million of their cap room. Also the source says that the Packers are not a franchise that runs business that way.

This gives the Dolphins the option of getting either getting Flynn without having to give up draft picks for him. If Flynn would have cost draft picks, like a 2nd round pick, then I would have been 100% certain that the Dolphins should go after Manning. However I am still undecided as to who their signal caller should be next year. Flynn is younger and could give the Dolphins a franchise QB as well as a player who knows the offense. Every time I see highlights of the game vs the Lions I want him to be our QB, however Manning is Manning so I don't really know right now. One thing I am certain about is that I don't envy Ireland job right now.

Ryan Tannehill says he would love to play with the Dolphins

Ryan Tannehill is at the scouting combine and he made a comment that would make some Dolphins fan smile. Tannehill said that he would love to play for Mike Sherman in Miami, this coming a few days after Sherman compared Tannehill to Rodgers and Favre. Tannehill is a young player with plenty of upside but the negative is that he is raw and would more than likely need some time to further develop. Tannehill was a WR turned QB (as seen in the picture) and that he still has to improve to become a more polished QB.

However this also indicates that he has plenty of upside and so don't be surprised if after holding the clipboard for a year or two he turns out to be a good QB. The Dolphins would be a perfect fit for Tannehill because he is familiar with Sherman's offense and it shouldn't take him too long to transition to learning the offense.

What I love about this offseason and why I am so excited for it to begin is that one thing is almost certain, the Dolphins will have a new signal caller next season. They have assembled a coaching staff who have worked with Flynn and Tannehill which really goes a long way in that they know how them personally and that reduces some of the risk. I think that the Dolphins have nice options this offseason with Manning, Flynn and Tannehill. I pretty sure one, or more, of the QBs mentioned will be in a Dolphins uniform next year

Dolphins win coin toss, get the 8th pick

The coin toss for the number 8 slot in the NFL draft was held today and the Dolphins won it. This may not sound like a big deal to some, but it could be key. Let's a player like Blackmon (or someone else) were to slip for some reason and a team in need of a WR wanted to trade up just in case they thought the Panthers would snatch him so they trade with Miami to ensure they get him. Not saying that we will trade down but its nice to have options.
