Last night was the annual awards ceremony hosted by the Phins.
Ricky Williams was named the MVP. I really have no beef here. As you may recall our voting came down thusly:
MVP: Ronnie Brown led the way through midseason. Ricky did well. Randy Starks looked like he might take the award at some point, but dropped off. Nate Garner deserved a nomination because he came on strong and played 4 of the 5 positions on the line. But in the end, it was the 5th guy on that o-line, the only player to make the pro bowl, who quietly stole the show. Our MVP is Jake Long.
The community service award (which we learned was NOT given to the guy who did the most community service based on his plea agreement with the law, imagine that!) was given to Lousaka Polite. I have to admit that I didn't know much about his work in the community; he doesn't grab headlines the way some players do.
The team leadership award was a split decision between Yeremiah Bell and Jason Taylor. I'm sorry? Come again? First off - a split decision? And while Y-Bell was adequate last year, I didn't get the sense he was "leading" the team. Hunh. Maybe I missed that week. And as for Jason Traitor, he was the only team captain that was going to meetings and was a fairly vocal leader. And to reward him, the Dolphins let him get away....naturally he was not in attandance last night.
I am puzzled and perplexed by the leadership award....
