JT wanted to come back to Miami. He opted out of an $8.5 million contract in Washington. He had Washington, the Jets, and the Patriots - among others - knocking on his door, not to mention wining and dining him.
He talked with Bill. He talked with some of the coaches. He talked with his wife. In his heart, he knew he had to end his career where he started it - as a Miami Dolphin.
The Dolphins said they wanted to wait and see, and reportedly, Bill looked at every play of the 2007 season and decided that JT still had "it."
Now came the waiting game. There was a match, but both sides had to have an understanding of what was in it for them.
We have to figure that for JT, he comes home. To his team. And more importantly, to his family. He comes back to fans that adore him. Its not about the money for him, its about pride.
For the Dolphins, they get a guy who agrees to be a role player. To fit in. Who will be at every practice, every minicamp. And we would think he will mentor some of the younger guys on their game.
You can't beat it. A guy 1 year removed from being the defensive MVP coming back for $1.5 million. And *not* tarnishing his legacy by playing for another team in the division.
