Ain't that a peach?

I took my son out to a Marlins spring training game today.   Players are (often) willing to sign autographs before, during, or after the game, which is great.  My son saw SS Hanley Ramirez standing by the fence, and went to ask for an autograph.  A few other people had the same idea, so there was a small group around him.  My son held up the pen and the paper, and Hanley grabbed the pen, signed someone else's ball, and walked off.

So, not only did he get stiffed on the autograph, Hanley made off with his pen.

A millionaire stealing a kids pen.  Okay, maybe he doesn't have time to go out and buy himself one.

If you happen to see him signing balls with a blue sharpie, be sure and congratulate him on his acquisition.

One question

Where do the Jets get all the money they're paying in player salaries?  They overpaid for guys last year, and appear to be doing so this year as well.

There is still a salary cap isn't there?

I know they saved a lot by Favre retiring, but I am skeptical of their book keeping...

And the same can be said of Washington and Oakland, by the way

Just before free agency

Miami got Yeremiah Bell re-signed.  And then, they went after S Gibril Wilson, who was a starter back on the Giants championship team, and last season was with the Raiders.

Next up, the reportedly were looking at Jason Brown the C from Minnesota.  He was contacted by 4 teams, and opted to head out to St Louis first.

And there's a wire report that they're looking at Laverneus Coles who left the Jets.  Great.  Just what we need a Jets-south team.

Ummmm....

According to a "wire service report" -

Tom Brady has added to his collection of rings.

The New England Patriots quarterback and supermodel Gisele Bundchen, his girlfriend of three years, married Thursday in Los Angeles, Us Weekly reported on its Web site.

The ceremony was "very small and intimate," Us Weekly reported, with the guest list mostly consisting of immediate family. Brady's son with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan was also in attendance, according to the report.

Dolce & Gabbana reportedly dressed the wedding party, with Bundchen wearing a gown from the design house and her three dogs wearing matching lace collars.

Forbes.com reported last May that Bundchen was the world's highest-paid supermodel, with estimated annual earnings of $35 million.

Just a couple of thoughts here: I assume this ring comes with an asterisk, too, since his ex was at the ceremony.  What was that about Brady and "small" ?  She had three dogs that matched her gown?  I didn't think her non-supermodel friends were that bad looking!  Or - is Brady actually more like Michael Vick?   And finally, I guess he's protecting himself financially in case he never plays again.

Congrats to you, Tom.  Here's to hoping married life agrees with you so much that you get fat and slow and decide to quit football.

Re-signings

The Dolphins made a play to get Vernon Carey under contract, fearing that he would leave for a big-money deal meaning that they'd have to get someone else for equivalent money, and teach them the system.  Carey said he needs to show the team he's worth it, and I'd agree.  He's talented, but he needs to pick up his game.

Channing Crowder also inked a new deal.  Our MVP was ready to bolt and said it was "Miami's loss" last week, then had a change of heart.  Apparently, he had dinner with Zach, and he told Crowder that the grass isn't always greener... and Crowder took a small jab at Cam "Cam" Cameron when he said 'if it had been another coaching staff, it might have been different.'
