They won again. You know what would have been funny? If the Chargers had simply pulled a "Gator Flop" and simply given up on the game...
I watched a small part of the game, but not that much of it. What I did see was the following: a few "homer" calls from the refs - some offensive holding that went unnoticed, some defensive questionable contacts that weren't called, and a play where Rivers was knocked down by Seymour after the play was over that wasn't called. Am I surprised? No. The NFL *wants* the Patriots to go for the record. What more hype could the NFL have than that?
Okay, maybe Rivers did some acting, and it was the right non-call. But, can you imagine if that had been Brady instead of Rivers? Undoubtedly, the crowd would have gone nuts, and there *would* have been a penile-ty, because you can't touch the golden child. And its possible the defender would have been ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct, just because of the reactions all around.
Oh and one more thing. I wondered why they had a 91 on the back of their helmets, but never really cared enough to look it up. Today I learned that its there because in their first game, on the first drive of the year, they drove 91 yards for a score. And in his usual nonsensical attempt to get the players to rally around him (OMG, he *is* Nick Saban) he put that on their helmets (hand me a tissue, I need to dab my eyes). But, here's the problem: the NFL has a rule that specifically prohibits players from having any numbers on their helmets other than their own number. Except in cases where they are paying tribute to a fallen player. This is clearly violating that rule. And that shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.
Here's to hoping the Packers or Giants find a way to win just to put an end to the nonsense.
On the other hand, I have little doubt the Patriots will win. And I bet - as I've stated before - that Bill Bellicheat walks away from the game at the end of the season. I believe that was part of the deal with his scandal early in the year. And he's trying to rub it in everyone's face before he rolls out.
